Week ahead - May 18, 2024
Brief change mid-week
Drier start & end

Issued: 0900 Saturday 18th May 2024
Duty forecaster: Dr. Simon Keeling

Changing to some showers and rain for a few days mid-week, but drier start and end, generally warm until mid-week

After a dry few days things are likely to be turning more mixed mid-week. Some rain in the east and stronger winds, showers in the west. By the weekend it may well become more settled again as pressure builds once more, some cloud in west west and a few showers here but drier in the east. Temperatures will be warm overall but cooler mid-week.

Tuesday 21/5/24
A light airflow covers the country on Tuesday. Cloud is going to be increasing across eastern areas during the day with an area of rain affecting coasts of north-east England through the mid to late morning and then this reaching Eastern Scotland in the afternoon a few showers for Southwest Scotland and Northern Ireland. Other areas tend to be dry with some sunny spells. Highs at 18 to 21C.

Wednesday 22/5/24
On Wednesday an area of low pressure may drift up the eastern coast of England and Scotland. This brings cloud and rain to many eastern areas of the country, some of the rain could be quite heavy in the east. Western areas have a north-westerly flow, which brings a mix of sunny spells and showers, most of the showers over western Scotland and the coasts of Ireland. Highs at a cooler 15 to 18C for many, but 13C in parts of the wetter east.

Thursday 23/5/24
The area of low pressure is to the east of Scotland on Thursday. This gives rain too much of central and eastern Scotland, as well as the far north-east of England. Western Scotland, Ireland and the rest of England and Wales will be brighter and mostly dry, although isolated showers, can't be ruled out over western coasts and hills. Highs at 16 to 19C.

Friday 24/5/24
Low-pressure is again close to Eastern Scotland on Friday and may bring more rain to central and eastern Scotland. High-pressure builds over south-western parts of the British Isles, giving a dry and fair day to most. Highs at 15 to 19C.

Saturday 25/5/24

Sunday 26/5/24
