Fine in the south
Rain in the northwest later

Issued: 0530hrs Wednesday 8th May 2024
Duty forecaster: Andy Chaloner

Mostly light rain in the northwest, a stray shower possible across England

For England and Wales a mostly dry start is expected with any early cloud cover breaking through the morning to allow sunny spells to develop. Thickening cloud is expected across western Scotland and Northern Ireland ahead of an approaching weather front.

Rain arrives from the west during the later stages of the afternoon, affecting the Western Isles first and possibly Northern Ireland later, although remaining mostly light. Elsewhere a largely dry and fine afternoon across England and Wales with lengthy sunny spells and some higher level cloud possible at times. Highs of 14C in the northwest and 19C in the southeast

Overnight rain persists in the northwest but mostly dry and clear away from this. Some low level cloud possible on the east coast, possibly bringing the risk of mist patches.
